Me
I know that I am not exactly the “slenderest” of people … it just something that I have always dealt with all my life.. I’ve always just kinda been that “jolly big guy”. But over the past 2 years my medical condition has been getting worse. Most people don’t notice the problems with my knees , climbing stairs, etc I just try to continue to keep that “happy, jolly” mask on at all times.

Back during the summer I started to have problems of falling asleep, almost like little cat naps during the day. Thinking it was just tiredness from always getting up to take care of Abby during the night, I never thought about it. That was until I started falling asleep at the wheel of my car.

In October I was sent to Overlook Hospital overnight for a Sleep Apnea Test. It concluded that in fact I did have Sleep Apnea (which is where your airway collapses, and you stop breathing, and eventually your brain jolts you back awake again) , and that upon me falling asleep it takes my body about 30 minutes to reach a critical level of lacking oxygen. Since November I have been sleeping at night with a c-pap (a breathing machine). This however is only a temporary band aid.

The bigger issue is my weight and size. I am classified as “morbidly obese”. It is a condition that I could die from, unless drastic measures are taken –immediately.

So after much thought, discussion with my Doctor & Pulminologist, and prayer I am getting set to have Gastric Bypass Surgery. Though not a choice I ever thought I would have to make, it is one that is now more out of medical need then want.

Gastric Bypass, or “stomach stapling” is the same procedure that Al Roker, from Channel 4 had done a few years ago. This surgery will drastically reduce my weight, and help to ensure my health. It will also over the next 12 to 18 months change my appearance.. to the tune of about 150 to 175 pounds.

I am going for surgery next Tuesday, February 8th (Fat Tuesday—Mardi Gras of all days!!) and will be out for recovery for about 2 to 3 weeks.

Its going to be interesting... 2 weeks will be the longest I have been away from my job here at St T's .. EVER. Even our honeymoon to Disney was only 10 days! Gonna be intersting.. I will master Madden 2005 and NCAA 05 or go absolutely CRAZY !!!
